Arctic Antiques is a Gouralnik family affair
Since the mid-1990s, when the founder, Vladimir Gouralnik, was asked by a German artisan if he could supply natural Siberian mammoth ivory (Mammuthus primigenius), the family have been in the business of trading in this creamy-white gold. Gouralnik struck a gentleman’s agreement with the boutique manufacturer and it was the beginning of an adventure that took him from an interior-design exhibition in Germany to the wilds of the Laptev Sea in Far Eastern Siberia.
From this first deal, the Gouralnik family became one of the first certified mammoth ivory traders in the European Union (EU), and Arctic Antiques GmbH was born. Over the past 25 years, the Gouralnik family has become one of the world’s most trusted names in Mammuthus primigenius: the woolly mammoth, an ancient, extinct relative of the elephant whose tusks, recovered from above the Arctic Circle in northern Siberia, can range from roughly 10,000 to 100,000 years old.

It means sourcing from a network of credible suppliers across Siberia; managing the demanding logistics of moving a prized natural material across international borders; and handling the bureaucratic processes for certification and paperwork that legitimate trade requires. Among our carefully curated product categories, we supply tusks and white fossilized mammoth ivory pieces that are dried under controlled temperature conditions for at least five years after recovery — the process needed to achieve the pure, creamy colour of natural mammoth ivory. Set against the thousands of years the material has already waited in the Siberian permafrost, five more is, as we like to say, the blink of an eye.
