This is a top-quality piece of Siberian woolly mammoth ivory (Mammuthus primigenius). The ivory of this thick slab is rock-solid, completely dry and without cracks. This piece stems from the middle of a large mammoth tusk. There are a few tiny, non-penetrating fissures on one cross-cut section. One cross-cut section is slightly thicker than the other. Consistent width with plenty of reserves on both ends. The colour of the ivory is white.
Geological epoch: Pleistocene.
Age: Over 10,000 years.
Origin: Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
