Mammoth ivory chess set

This is a handmade woolly mammoth ivory chess-set (Mammuthus primigenius). The chessboard is made out of Wenge wood (Millettia laurentii).

The chessboard measures 57 cm x 57 cm | 22.44 in x 22.44 in.

The elevated “playing square” which is carved out on top of the board measures 44 cm x 44 cm | 17.32 in x 17.32 in.

The height of the chessboard is 3.5 cm | 1.38 in.

All chess pieces are carved from solid blocks of Siberian woolly mammoth ivory (Mammuthus primigenius).

The individual heights of the pieces are as follows:

King: 10.5 cm | 4.13 in.

Queen: 8.3 cm | 3.27 in.

Bishops: 6.5 cm | 2.56 in.

Knights: 6 cm | 2.36 in.

Rooks: 5.5 cm | 2.16 in.

Pawns: 4.8 cm | 1.89 in.

Geological epoch: Pleistocene.

Age: Over 10,000 years.

Origin: Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
