This is a cross-cut section of a Siberian woolly mammoth tusk (Mammuthus primigenius). Part of this cross-cut section is usually hidden from view, since it sits deep within the skull (pulp cavity). Despite the small cracks, the ivory of this piece is rock-solid and completely dry. Please carefully look at the pictures for precise dimensions. The colour of the outer layer of bark is a beautiful mix of beige and brown.
Geological epoch: Pleistocene.
Age: Over 10,000 years.
Origin: Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
This piece is not stabilised and/or filled with epoxy. Please note that none of our mammoth ivory is artificially stabilised and/or restored unless explicitly stated.
